Issue

In 2016, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council realised that they had a problem. They had numerous electrical service providers in place, but it appeared they were asking multiple service providers to do the same task at the same time and paying each of them to do the same job. They were also finding that certain elements of each job were being missed and falling into the gaps between service providers, so when something wasn’t completed or didn’t work, each provider would simply point at another and say it was their fault. This had to stop…..

Solution

The Council went out to the market to source a single supplier for all of their commercial electrical service work. Enter JPEC Group.

Outcome

Originally being awarded the commercial electrical services contract, JPEC soon established themselves and within a short space of time had taken over EV charging, plumbing, heating, boilers, gas along with legionella, air monitoring and all domestic electrical services. Once the Council realised the skill and competency of the JPEC Group team, they engaged them to work across all aspects of their electrical services. This included carrying out lighting replacements to the open air car parks and multi-storey car parks within the borough. Initially conducting a risk assessment for each car park, JPEC realised these were almost a no-go area for most members of the public. They were dark, dingy places that even the police rarely visited, making them an ideal spot for vandals and drug users. JPEC replaced the lighting with LED prison grade fittings making them almost completely vandal proof. This brightened up the areas and forced out the undesirable elements. As the light fittings are vandal proof and the LED lamps have a life expectancy of in excess of 100,000 hours, the new lamps have reduced the maintenance costs along with lowering the operating costs by over 80%. The Council have been so pleased, they asked JPEC to replace the lighting in the prestigious town hall. Wherever possible, JPEC have replaced light fittings with smart lighting, ensuring the lights are only on when needed, adding further cost reductions.

JPEC have gone a step further in aiding the Council to reduce costs and take a step closer to their carbon zero goal. Along with installing over 20 EV charging points in the borough, JPEC are helping the Council move their refuse collection and grounds maintenance fleet to all electric by installing smart chargers. These ensure vehicles are fully charged when needed but they charge based on priority, charge level and time of day, so that the electrical load is managed. This keeps everything in good condition and allows for optimised charging during off peak times.

JPEC have been so successful they have just been re-awarded the contract for another five years.
