You could soon be able to Beat the Heat and apply for government grants to help pay for your air conditioning units in your home. This is under plans being considered by government,  according to recent news reports.

The UK government is considering expanding the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) to include air-to-air heat pumps, which can provide both heating and cooling, as part of a plan to help homeowners cope with hotter summers. Currently, the BUS provides a £7,500 grant for heat pumps but only for air-source (air-to-water) and ground-source heat pumps, which primarily provide central heating. The potential expansion would allow homeowners to use the grant to install air conditioning units as well.

The BUS currently offers a £7,500 grant for air-source and ground-source heat pumps, which heat homes.

The government is exploring extending the BUS to include air-to-air heat pumps, which can also cool homes. Hotter summers in the UK have increased interest in domestic air conditioning, and the government is looking for ways to help homeowners manage higher temperatures.

Any extra cost…..

It is likely that extending the scheme to air-to-air systems would not significantly increase the overall cost, as the government has already allocated nearly £2 billion for the BUS until 2028.

The government has a target of installing 600,000 heat pumps per year by 2028 and plans to extend the scheme to 2030. The pro-growth group, Britain Remade, has joined calls for the government to extend the subsidies to include air-to-air heat pumps, especially for new builds.
